30 things we've learned about Event Management

As TAG Events celebrates its 30th birthday this year, we've been reminiscing about the lessons learned, the challenges overcome, and the successes achieved in the world of event management. From humble beginnings to becoming a trusted name in the industry, here are 30 pearls of wisdom we've gathered along the way:

1. Personal Touch:
Event management is not just about logistics; it's about infusing every detail with a personal touch.

2. Team Spirit:
A cohesive team is the backbone of every successful event (and of every business so it’s well worth investing in yours!).

3. Flexibility:
Plans (and weather!) may change, but adaptability ensures smooth sailing.

4. Creativity:
Thinking outside the box turns ordinary events into extraordinary experiences.

5. Competition:
A little healthy rivalry is great for the atmosphere.

6. Relationship Building:
Building trust and long-term relationships is paramount, whether that’s us with our suppliers, partners and venues, or you with your delegates getting a chance to network and have fun together.

7. Water Works:
whatever the occasion, getting onto the water is a tonic. We’ve always loved anything aqua and always will.

8. Communication:
Clear and consistent communication is key to avoiding misunderstandings.

9. Costumes:
People love dressing up! Even the most professional of businesses is full of secret performers! We’ve learnt that adding a costume element to our activities always brings out the creatives and the clowns.

10. Problem Solving:
Expect the unexpected and always have a contingency plan – that goes for us as organisers and you when you’re facing one of our challenges.

11. Technology Integration:
Embracing technology enhances efficiency and attendee experience.

12. Interaction is good:
Interactive challenges and games really help to break the ice at a corporate event. We use them as part of a bigger plan, either to get people energised, or to liven up a dinner or a day of presentations.

13. Timeline Management:
Time is of the essence when it comes to keeping your event running smoothly – and sometimes it’s good for you to plan ahead too.

14. Feedback Loop:
Listening to feedback helps in continuous improvement – we always ask you for your thoughts after the event.

15. Emotional Connection:
Creating emotional connections makes events memorable, especially if there’s a common cause to work towards.

16. Age is just a number:
No one really leaves their childhood behind. Whether it’s sports day, human table football or It’s a Knockout, were all kids at heart.

17. Themed Experiences:
Themes add excitement and cohesion to events and help you get the message across.

18. Guest Experience:
Ensuring guests feel valued and appreciated goes a long way which is why we partner with our venues so we know your whole experience will be up to our high standards.

19. Let Us Entertain You:
There’s no such thing as a free dinner, and now there’s no such thing as a boring dinner either. Our entertainment packages and activities guarantee there wont be a dull moment.

20. Resilience:
Bouncing back from setbacks builds character and strengthens resolve and event activities are a safe and fun way to learn this lesson.

21. Community Engagement:
Engaging with the local community adds depth to events and is rewarding for participants.

22. To the beat of the drum:
There is very little more invigorating than the sound of the drum as a dragon boat team rows in unison.

23. The Great Outdoors:
Being outside among nature is a boost in itself for people who spend a lot of their time in an office.

24. Leadership:
Strong leadership inspires and motivates teams to excel.

25. Celebrating Milestones:
Recognising achievements fosters a positive work culture and celebrating them with an event makes this even more memorable.

26. Work-Life Balance:
Taking care of team members' well-being leads to happier, more productive employees.

27. Transparency:
Open and honest communication fosters trust and loyalty – here’s how we prove this theory.

28. Risk Management:
Identifying and mitigating risks minimises potential disruptions. We always make sure we deal with the serious stuff so you don’t have to.

29. Inventiveness:
You wouldn’t believe the things we’ve seen done with some rolled up paper and sticky tape! Actually, don’t take our word for it, try it yourself!

30. Choices:
…and finally, it doesn’t have to be high-octane! We offer some fascinating workshops and creative experiences for the calmer customer.

As we look back on 30 years of event management excellence, we're grateful for the lessons learned, the challenges conquered, and the memories made. Here's to many more years of creativity, innovation, and unforgettable moments with TAG Events!
